  4. Please note the following:

  6. 1. Hardware requirements.
  7. PC-Estimator full registration system is now supplied in high density disks,
  8. 5-1/4" or 3-1/2" size.  Therefore, as a minimum, IBM or compatible 286 or
  9. better computer is required. Older XT computers with 360K disk drives are no
  10. longer supported.

  12. 2. Program Installation.
  13. The shareware system comes in one diskette. The contents of the disk should
  14. be copied to a hard disk directory. A file called "Config.sys" should be
  15. present in the root directory of the hard disk. This file should have two
  16. lines reading:
  17.         FILES=20
  18.         BUFFERS=24
  19.  
  20. The program installation given below automatically performs the procedures
  21. explained above. When you receive a copy of the shareware program, follow
  22. the following steps to install the system.

  24. a. Insert program disk in drive A (or B)
  25. b. At DOS prompt A> (or B>), type:
  26.  
  27.         INSTALL X:      (press Enter)
  28.  
  29. X represents the hard disk drive that you want the files to be installed.
  30. For example, if you want files to be installed on disk drive C, then type
  31. INSTALL C:)

  33. Then follow screen prompts and instructions.

  35. c. To run PC-Estimator:
  36. Go to 'pcshare' directory. At DOS ready prompt ">" ,type:

  38.         PCEST           (press Enter)

  40. 3. Cost database and Costbook 1994.
  41. The full registration version cost database is now enlarged to approximately
  42. 3,000 items of work.  The data comes from General Construction Costbook
  43. 1994, published by Building News, Inc. A more comprehensive 10,000 item cost
  44. database representing the entire Costbook 1994 is also available from CPR,
  45. Inc.  Price: $95.00. This price includes the BNI General Construction
  46. Costbook 1994.

  48. BNI General Construction Costbook 1994 by BNI, Inc. is also available as a
  49. companion reference to PC-Estimator. Price: $49.95 plus S&H.

  51. 4. Cost indexation for various cities and states.
  52. Thes full registration version of the system comes with a program called
  53. "citindex".  This program will adjust your cost database for cost indexes in
  54. all states and for several cities in the same state, if applicable.  Cost
  55. indexes are applied for each of the CSI 16 divisions. Furthermore, the user
  56. can modify existing indexes provided.

  58. 5. The full registration version of the PC-Estimator also contains
  59. additional features such as 'Bill of Material' reporting and
  60. 'Backup/restore' utility for easily backing up important estimate files for
  61. archive or moving from computer to computer.

  63. 5. Important Notice to Microsoft  MS-DOS operating system 6 users.
  64. Microsoft MS-DOS 6 users, note the following information supplied by
  65. Microsoft Corporation for Clipper compiled programs.
  66.  
  67. "After you upgrade to MS-DOS 6, a "not enough memory" error message may
  68. appear or your system may stop responding (hang) when you try to run an
  69. application generated with Computer Associates' Clipper program.
  70.  
  71. To correct this problem, add the NOEMS and NOVCPI switches to the EMM386.EXE
  72. command in your CONFIG.SYS file. For example:
  73.  
  74. device=c:\dos\emm386.exe noems novcpi
  75.  
  76. The application generated with Clipper should now run on your system.

  78. More Information:
  79. You can also work around this problem by using the RAM switch instead of the
  80. NOEMS switch with EMM386 or you can remove the DEVICE= statement for
  81. EMM386.EXE from your CONFIG.SYS file.

  83. EMM386 is a Virtual Control Program Interface (VCPI) server. VCPI is a
  84. program interface that allows expanded memory services (EMS) emulators and
  85. DOS extenders to coexist within a 80386/80486 environment."

  87. CPR note:
  88. The above MS-DOS correction issued by Microsoft for MS-DOS users is
  89. applicable to CPR programs since all CPR Estimating and Jobcost programs are
  90. Clipper compiled.  If you do not use MS-DOS 6, save this note for possible
  91. future reference.
